Practicals - 78%: An excellent write-up Joanna. Concise answers with a clear understanding of the questions and your drawings show excellent observations - well done!
Presentation - 75%: Very clearly presented using well-designed clear and informative overheads. Explained the theoretical background well, and especially strong on Darwin’s finches.
Essay - 80%: Nicely presented, accurate and detailed piece of work. Remember to italicize genus and species names but not to capitalize species names.
Exam - 72%

My career plans

I’m still not completely sure what I want to do when I graduate, but I’ve really enjoyed the practicals during the first year (much better than practicals at school), and I’m leaning more and more towards working in industry (lots of money!). I’d really like to go on the sandwich year but I think it’s hard to get in, so I’ll have to work really hard.
On the other hand, I still haven’t totally ruled out doing medicine when I graduate, but that’s even harder to get into. As well as a first class degree, you also need lots of volunteering stuff (remember to look into the Leicester Award).

Reflections

I feel that I have done well during my first year at University and met most of the goals I set myself before I came here.
Sometimes I find it difficult to ask academics for help even though I know I don’t really understand. Must be braver next year :-)
Make sure I start on coursework in good time and not leave it until the last few days!

My Goals for the Second Year:

Get good enough marks to be able to go on the year in industry scheme. Not sure what that is (remember to ask personal tutor).
Stand for election to the Film Society Committee.
Save up for a laptop.
Do a French class at the University.

Essay - 68%: Good essay containing a good deal of information. Well presented and evidence of reading around the subject. Try to structure your writing into paragraphs, and try not to quote too extensively - paraphrase the key points in your own words.

My student experience

Living in Digby Hall has been great. It helped me to meet lots of people who weren't on my course. Queuing for the bus is a pain, perhaps next year I will get a bike.
I wish I had brought a laptop with me, as I am doing a lot of my work online now
